QGP and Public TV

QGP and BT  were the Co-Sponsors of the launch of Public TV at The British Library, London on 18th April 2007

Public TV is the new Internet TV service giving you direct access to government, public sector, training and business video.  It brings together video from a wide range of organisations.

QGP sponsors the Public TV Government Channel.  One of the subdivisions of the Government Channel is Education. Here you can find best practice videos from education around the world.

Media group Ten Alps announced the 12 new channels within its Public TV site (www.Public.tv) - spanning key sectors such as health, military, transport, government, business, conferences and recruitment.

The Public TV site itself also fully launched, with advertising, following successful conclusion of its beta phase. The new channels are a huge advance in Ten Alps’ plans for Internet video in public sector, government and business media – in the UK and beyond.

To underpin the project, Ten Alps has over the past year built up 580 offline trade titles (which it is migrating online), 330 advertising sales staff and a 52,000-strong advertiser base.

The full list of channels launched on Public TV is:

Public TV Arts and Leisure             Public TV Business
Public TV Charities                           Public TV Conferences
Public TV Environment/Science    Public TV Government
Public TV Health                                Public TV International
Public TV Military                               Public TV Politics
Public TV Recruitment                     Public TV Transport

Each Channel has its own selection of videos, plus an online video player and search system.

ITN is the latest organisation to agree to feed in video reports to Public TV. ITN will provide a wide variety of public sector news stories on areas such as health and education, as well as public sector videos from their archive.

Ten Alps now plans:

  • To roll out Public TV Frontline – where people who work in the public sector, from police to paramedics, can send in video diaries or video reports about their experiences.
  • To launch Public TV in America.

Background Information on Public TV

This is a major expansion for Public TV – and reflects the strong way that the site has developed since its beta version was launched November 2006.

  • On Public TV as a whole, over 3,300 videos can now be viewed from over 170 public organisations.
  • The organisations include Downing St, the COI, DirectGov, the main UK political parties, the Ministry of Defence, the Army, the Navy, NATO, the NHS, Government departments, the European Parliament, the White House, the World Bank, and many charities.
  • The latest organisation to add their content to Public TV this week is the Scottish Parliament.
  • Public TV Content Partners include the Country Channel, Green TV, the Local Government Channel, Research TV, and New You.
  • The site has attracted about 35,000 unique visitors during the past month – and this is expected to grow now that Public TV has moved out of its beta phase and commenced marketing.

Public TV brings together video from across the public arena – offering users fast and free access to a wide variety of videos. The website also provides extensive social networking features, with users being able to add comments or send videos to friends or colleagues.

Public TV is being funded through advertising and sponsorship. QGP Ltd is pleased to be associated with Ten Alps on this major project.
