The Education (Change of Category of Maintained Schools) (Amendment) (No2) (England) Regulations 2006 came into force in August 2006, amending the 2000 Regulations of the same name.

Governing bodies of community and voluntary controlled primary schools can now publish and decide their own proposals to change their category to 'foundation' status in accordance with the streamlined procedure.

Secondary schools already have this power.
